Hampden park covered with 5012 metres of quilts

This is what a football pitch full of quilts looks like – impressive !
Saturday 8th June saw 125 volunteers from all walks of life lay 5012 quilts on Hampden Park in Glasgow.  The project aimed to raise awareness and raise funds from the sale of all the quilts for Alzheimer Scotland.
The sun shone throughout the day and everyone had a great time.
However, it took 4 years to get to this point.   The first two years involved me talking to those living with dementia and putting their personal memories onto quilts.   Some of those quilts were in a separate exhibition in the Millennium Suite at Hampden Park.   The next two years were taken over with talks around the country persuading (very willing) quilters to make enough quilts to cover a football pitch.   The project is entitled “Yes we can – together” and I am pleased to report that “Yes we did – together”.
An enormous thank you to all who contributed quilts, to those who helped along the way and to the volunteers who turned out on a wonderfully sunny day to help me make my dream a reality.

An exhibition of some of the quilts which will be laid on Hampden Park in Glasgow on Saturday 8th June, will be on show for  10 days as part of the Dumfries and Galloway ARts Festival.  The project aims to raise awareness of Alzheimers and hopefully raise much needed funds for Alzheimer Scotland.   You can buy a lap quilt for as little as £20, a single bed size for £40 and a double bed quilt for £80.  Of course you can pay more by making an extra donation.

The exhibition starts on Friday 24 May at 2pm and runs until Saturday 1 June.  Come and join the fun and meet the quilters.

This one was made by Barbara Dillett and shows some of the scenes from Robert Burns Tam o Shanter.

More quilts for Hampden Park Alzheimer project

The sun is shining in Mouswald today.  The snow is still on the far banks of the garden.  However, as long as the sun shines on Saturday 8th June at Hampden Park I don't mind.   38 quilts handed in yesterday mostly from Montaque Patchers in Sale, Manchester.  Thank you everyone, you are doing a great job!!!!
Any size of quilts accepted.   WE still need about another 1,000 so keep them coming please.  Hampden Park football pitch takes a lot of covering.   Alzheimer Scotland is greatly appreciative of all that quilters are doing to raise awareness and funds.

Alzheimer quilt project news

Another 83 donated quilts have been added to the Hampden Park/Alzheimers Quilt gallery on my webpage.  These have been donated this week - way to go girls !!  (www.annhillquilter.co.uk).

Also added are the forms you have been asking for: 1. An order form to use when you want to buy a quilt to help raise funds for Alzheimer Scotland.  2. A 'Buy Back' form for those of you who want to buy your own quilt back after it has been laid on the pitch during this mammoth event in June 2013.

We had a great day on St Valentine's Day at Clarencefield making quilts for the project and we are having another day on the 16th so if you are around Dumfries come in and say hello.   We are in the village hall at Clarencefield about 8 miles outside Dumfries on the low road to Annan/Carlisle.   We start at 10 and finish at 4.

I paid a visit to the Scottish Parliament this week to take a look at the exhibition space I have offered at the invitation of Alex Fergusson, MSP.   My exhibition will go on show to politicians, their visitors and staff on the week starting 25th Feb although we will be there on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday only. (This photo shows me with David Mundell, MP - I will get one of Alex and I next week - I hope!).

I continue to do lots of talks around the place.  Mary and I were in Moffat last night and are going to Dalbeattie next week and the Dumfries Ladies Lunch the week after.   Classes have started again and I am still busy making quilts for Hampden Park.   Life is never dull.

Keep quilting.......

Valentine's day quilting for dementia

You can follow the link www.dementiascotland.org to find out about my project for covering Hampden Park international football pitch in quilts to raise awareness/funds for Alzheimer Scotland.  Alzheimer Scotland have organised a special St Valentine's Day of quilting on February 14th to make a quilt for those who are living with dementia who may simply not remember that they are loved.  This quilt contains the memories of eight people living with dementia.   The centre panel is the logo for Alzheimer Scotland.    Please help if you can.

SHARING, GIVING, QUILTING HAMPDEN CHALLENGE FOR VALENTINE'S DAY

Happy new year to all.  It won't be long until Valentine's Day and this year I want everyone to think not only of your own loved ones but of those who are living with Alzheimers.  As you know, I have a project to cover Hampden Park International Football pitch in Glasgow with quilts in the summer of this year.    Alzheimer Scotland have organised a quilting event entitled "Sharing, Giving, Quilting" the Hampden Challenge.   Two days - one goal !  Valentine's Day and Saturday 18th February.   If you can't make a quilt then there are other ways to help.   Donate a quilt.  You can always pick them up in charity shops.   You may have one lying in your cupboard that you know longer use.  I can put it to good use.  You could sponsor the quilts by going to www.justgiving.com/Ann-Hill-Quilt-Challenge   Every little helps.   You could buy a quilt on the day or after the event.   YOU could volunteer to help on the day - we especially need some strong men to lift the bags of quilts on and off the pitch.   The project is entitled "Yes we can - together".  Let's do this !
